My view of 34 weeks |
Last week I had gone to the doctor and she seemed to think that Otto was measuring about 3 weeks big. Today we had an ultrasound to find out just what he looked like in there. Sure enough, they believe he is weighing in at 6 lbs 4 oz already at 34 weeks. With approximately 6 more weeks to go Dr. Rupe thinks he could get up into the 9 lb range. I've heard stories from people where they make these estimates ahead of time and then end up being off, so I'm not letting myself get too freaked out that he will actually being a 9-10 lb baby.
I had one of those normal/random questioning thoughts a couple of weeks ago and thought "What if HE comes out a SHE?!". I mentioned it to the ultrasound tech so she did everything she could to confirm for the 3rd time that he is a boy. Thankfully, she set my mind to ease - It's *still* a boy!!!
She also tried to get some pictures of his face, but he is now head down and was facing my back so we weren't able to see what he really looks like all fattened up. We will just have to wait 6 more weeks.
Today (July 19) was my 33-ish week check up. Otto's heartbeat sounded good and Dr. Rupe measured my stomach. Once she did that she told me that he is measuring 3 weeks ahead of schedule. *super* I have an ultrasound scheduled for next Tuesday afternoon so she can get new measurements on him.
When I say *super*, I don't mean it to sound like I'm not eager to meet my son. I say it because we are not fully prepared for him. Is anyone really every fully ready for children? Probably not, but there are still projects we are working on and things to buy. Just because he is growing at a faster rate doesn't mean that he will be coming early. I'm just preparing myself mentally in case he does. And now it sounds like Jef and I need to step up our work pace on projects.
I will update next week with new ultrasound pictures. I'm excited to see how he has fattened up in there!!
31 weeks down. 9 to go. I had a check up yesterday morning. Everything looks and sounds good. I'm now to the point where I will have check ups every 2 weeks. Then at 35 weeks I will begin weekly check ups until he arrives.
This week, Otto measures over 16 inches long. He weighs about 3.3 pounds (try carrying four navel oranges) and is heading into a growth spurt. He can turn his head from side to side, and his arms, legs, and body are beginning to plump out as needed fat accumulates underneath his skin. (a

He has ramped up his movement in the past week or so. People other than Jef and I are now able to see his somersaults, kicks and punches. It's pretty fun to watch their reactions to my stomach swaying side to side. I've been trying to get a good video to post, but he doesn't seem to want to cooperate. I'll keep trying.
